Specific Certifications

Certifications for commercial applications like Oracle and SAP require a lot of dedication and are career-paths all on their own. Here are some paths you can go down if you’re looking to specialize.

Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)

The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification is the highest level of certification in Cisco’s programming. They offer a variety of certifications covering infrastructure to data security.

Passing your CCIE exam for expert-level certification requires you to have at least five years experience in the chosen subject of your certification. Once achieved, salaries start at 100k with active recruiting from Tier-1 companies as demand for CCIE certified professionals continues to rise.

SAP Certified Technology Professional

SAP offers many certifications which are very marketable from a resume/career perspective, like their Certified Development Professional – SAP Commerce Cloud 1905 Developer certification. The certification programs require a bit of a time investment but they can help you obtain a median salary of just over 100k. A benefit to the SAP certifications is that they’re easy to start working toward with many budget-friendly resources like openSAP (which offers free courses and podcasts), SAP’s online training hub.

Oracle Certified MySQL Database Administrator (CMDBA)

The Oracle MySQL Database Administration (CMDBA) certification is designed for database administrators focused on business processes, data, and performance. The certification is highly respected and includes 3 paths; professional, specialist, and developer with the program culminating in a 2 part exam. A senior database administrator with this certification can make upwards of 100k with a solid work history and experience.

Supplementary Certifications

Certifications in cloud-based modalities like Salesforce may not require as much of a time investment as some certifications but they are no less valuable to the right employers and they’re a great way to round out your skill-set and set you apart.

Salesforce Admin Certification

Salesforce claims that it serves over 150,000 companies. That’s a lot of jobs, and the popularity of this cloud-based solution has not diminished. Salesforce administrators are responsible for solving business problems and scalability issues that are centered around project success and growth. Certificate holders are in high demand with a projected growth rate of 34% in the job market. At roughly 6 weeks, the certification training is a minimal commitment in comparison to some of the previous items on our list and comes in at an average salary of ~85k.

Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM) Certification

There are many Agile certifications that are achievable without decades of industry experience but we’ll be looking into the DASM which does require you to have experience with Agile.Disciplined Agile Senior Scrum Master (DASSM) is just a 2-day course on how to use the Disciplined Agile (DA) toolkit to optimize and problem-solve workflows. This 14 PDU course prepares you for the DASSM exam. The certification could get you an average salary of up to ~100k. As Scrum Master skills lend themselves to project management, this is also a great certification to pursue if you are an independent contractor.

Microsoft and AWS certification tracks can become specialized career paths, but there are also certifications under both of these corporate umbrellas that are fairly easy to acquire.

Microsoft Azure Certifications

The Azure Fundamentals certification covers cloud concepts, Azure services, Azure workloads, pricing, and support.
