TECKpert’s in-house app, CorkageFee, started out as a simple side project and ended up growing into the wine community it is today (think of it as the Yelp for wine). The initial functionality focused on the main purpose of the mobile app – to find corkage fees for restaurants nearby. This was done by geotargeting a user’s location (or selecting a different city) and allowing them to view restaurants in that corresponding area via a list or map view. Upon selection of a restaurant, future diners can view restaurant information and contribute to the wine experience by adding or confirming corkage policies, reviewing the restaurant or adding a tip. A reward system was put in place to incentivize user engagement, where members of the wine community can earn points and badges for completing set tasks on the app. As an additional source, users can access information on wineries and wine shops in their area or anywhere else in the US.
As of recent, the wine app holds data for over 10,000 corkage policies, as well as data for most restaurants nationwide and in Canada. CorkageFee is available for both iOS and Android devices.
When it came to CorkageFee’s website, we knew just an app landing page wasn’t enough. CorkageFee needed a full website where wine drinkers could engage with the brand and where wineries and wine shops could add/edit their business profiles. The responsive website was built with interactive calls to action to download the app, a wine blog and an admin for businesses that would instantly update information on the app when saved.
